Solar Space Heating
Evacuated tube collectors now enable space heating during the cold months where flat plate collectors struggle to produce heat. By supplementing a conventional heating system with a solar hot water system a substantial reduction in fossil fuel use can be achieved. The practical temperature limitations of solar water lend it better to radiant floor heating. Large thermal mass heating, like a concrete slab, can be used as a storage vessel for heat. Alternatively, under floor radiant systems can be utilized with a storage tank. Below is an example diagram of a solar supplemented radiant floor system utilizing a storage tank.
